Tips & Advice For First Time Jumpers

  • Get there early. Skydives are often organised on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
  • Most drop zones will have a small café or snack bar and some are really good.  Check with the DZ staff in advance, if they don’t offer food and drink you might want to take lunch with you.
  • Be sure to eat at least breakfast on the day and its important to stay hydrated (no alcohol).
  • Be prepared for a long day. If it becomes too cloudy or windy your jump may be delayed until conditions are safe to jump.
  • Listen carefully to the instructions you are given on the ground – they are for your safety.
  • Trust the instructor. He/she may seem a bit crazy to be constantly jumping out of an airplane, but they know what they’re doing.
  • Keep breathing. You are likely to feel at your most nervous as you climb to jump altitude in the plane and at the moment the doors open. When the doors do open take and keep taking deep breaths, it will slow your heart rate down and make you more relaxed.
  • Keep your eyes open. You will be well and truly out of your comfort zone but for most tandem skydivers it is a once in a lifetime experience – you should make the most of it and enjoy the incredible views.
  • Be prepared for your ears to pop as you freefall. Once your parachute opens, close your mouth, hold your nose and blow out to help alleviate the sensation.
  • If you can, try to have friends or family meet you on the ground. Although your feet will be back on the ground you will be on top of the world and will want to share the experience with someone.
  • The most important tip we can give you is try to relax, take some deep breaths and ENJOY A ONCE IN A LIFETIME EXPERIENCE.
